I love Sunday because this is the day we stop what we are doing, be still, and listen, sing, pray, and fellowship with God.
At Memorial Lutheran Church in Katy, we celebrated Reformation Sunday and learned about Paul in Romans 1:1–17.
In Deaf Family Grow, we practiced signing Mark 7:31–37, where Jesus healed the deaf man.
Then we watched Pastor Daniel Wallis’s ordination and installation at Concordia Lutheran Church in St. Louis.
Romans 1:1-17 summary
Paul introduces himself as a servant of Jesus Christ. God chose him to share the Good News about Jesus.
This Good News tells how Jesus, God’s Son, came from David’s family, died, and rose from the dead.
Paul tells the believers in Rome that he prays for them and hopes to visit soon. He wants to help them grow strong in their faith and to share encouragement with each other.
Paul says, “I am not ashamed of the Good News!”
The Good News shows how God makes people right with Him — through faith, not by what we do.
Anyone who believes in Jesus can be saved, both Jews and non-Jews.
We praised God for Pastor Daniel because he is Deaf, and we don’t see many Deaf pastors.
We should not be ashamed to share and teach God’s Word.
We don’t need to work hard to make God love us.
God already gives us His free gift through faith in Jesus.
Ephesians 2:8 God’s grace has saved you because of your faith in Christ. Your salvation doesn’t come from anything you do. It is God’s gift.”
Thank you, Lord, for everything! Amen!
This past weekend, I had a wonderful visit with Mark and Carol Seeger in Austin. We attended worship at Bethany Lutheran Church, where I enjoyed a meaningful sermon based on Romans 12. Afterward, Dylan and I visited Jesus Deaf Lutheran Church, located just across from the Texas School for the Deaf.
Bethany Lutheran Church provides interpreters for the Deaf, making worship accessible and meaningful.
Dylan noticed that this church has a Deaf-friendly liturgy. He grew up attending very traditional services, so now he has had the opportunity to experience both traditional and contemporary worship styles in deaf way.
Having grown up attending very traditional services.
Jesus Deaf Lutheran Church also serves Deaf youth twice a month on Mondays. On some Mondays, they welcome 5 to 40 kids from the Texas School for the Deaf.
Romans 12 Summary
Romans 12 teaches us how to live as followers of Christ:
Offer yourself to God: Live your life as a holy sacrifice, pleasing to God.
Renew your mind: Don’t follow the world; let God change the way you think so you can know His good plans.
Use your gifts: God has given each of us different abilities—serve, teach, encourage, give, lead, and show mercy using your gifts.
Love sincerely: Be genuine in love, hate evil, and cling to what is good.
Live in harmony: Honor others, be patient, rejoice with those who rejoice, and mourn with those who mourn.
Respond with good: Don’t repay evil with evil; seek peace, bless your enemies, and overcome evil with good.
