Last Saturday, we had Deaf Craft at Lifebridge in Sealy. Deaf and hearing people enjoyed painting many kinds of trees. Carlos Macias taught the class in ASL. ASL students from Houston Community College came and used their voices to interpret. It was a great chance for them to practice their skills. On Sunday, February 22, Deaf Family Grow was full of life at Memorial Lutheran Church. It is a free ASL class. The Pastor enjoyed watching the Deaf people sign glory songs. It was a joyful and special weekend.
Since 2023, I have served as a Deaf deaconess and work full-time in Deaf ministry in Texas. God is helping me find Deaf people in Sealy, Texas, and after three years, I now know six Deaf people who attend Lifebridge Community Church and Memorial Lutheran Church. Deaf ministry is not easy because many Deaf people are hidden, and many hearing people do not know how to communicate with them. About 98% of Deaf people do not know Jesus, and in Texas there are about 345,000 unreached Deaf people. Even when Deaf people sit in church, they often do not understand the teaching, and interpreters may not know how to explain the Gospel clearly. That is why there will be more Deaf Outreach Texas ASL Jesus Signs Workshops coming soon in Texas. These workshops help Deaf people, their families, pastors, teachers, and interpreters learn that Jesus loves Deaf people and that the Gospel is for them. Deaf-friendly tools like ASL teaching, the Jesus Film, simple Bibles, and visual Bible stories are used, and the Texas District Evangelical ASL curriculum will be available in 2027. One-to-one ministry is important, and God is using me and others to do this work. God teaches us, and we teach others. God is good.
In Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us many blessings, even when we do not ask. Thank you for the Deaf ministry in Texas as it grows little by little. Please help us reach Deaf people who do not know Jesus because they do not understand Your Word. Please touch their hearts, help them know you, and believe in You. We pray in Jesus's name. Amen.
You may have seen the four ASL Advent videos released weekly by Lifebridge Community Church Deaf Ministry. This time, all four videos have been combined into one. This was our first attempt, and althought we made mistakes. We had fun doing it. Many Deaf individuals have struggled to share biblical stories or convey them via sign language on camera. However, through consistent practice and signing, they showed improvement. The video is available to watch. Please see Home>Video. Enjoy it.
At Memorial Lutheran Church in Katy. The sermon was about Joshua 10; 8 to 12. In Bible study, we read how the Lord was with Joshua in the battle with Ai. In verse 12 God stopped the sun and moon. We thanked Donovan for bringing lunch meat and his delicious homemade bread. During Deaf Family Grow, we had a BLAST. We laughed, enjoyed and communicated with gestures using food signs. We prayed and thanked God together. God showed His power. He made the sun and moon stand still so Joshua could finish the battle and WIN. Thank you Lord for this was a good entertainment.
The first Sunday in November has arrived surprisingly quickly. We have finished studying the Ten Commandments and are now immersed in the Book of Genesis. I am thankful for the support of the two interpreters who helped our understanding.
I love Sunday because this is the day we stop what we are doing, be still, and listen, sing, pray, and fellowship with God.
At Memorial Lutheran Church in Katy, we celebrated Reformation Sunday and learned about Paul in Romans 1:1–17.
In Deaf Family Grow, we practiced signing Mark 7:31–37, where Jesus healed the deaf man.
Then we watched Pastor Daniel Wallis’s ordination and installation at Concordia Lutheran Church in St. Louis.
Romans 1:1-17 summary
Paul introduces himself as a servant of Jesus Christ. God chose him to share the Good News about Jesus.
This Good News tells how Jesus, God’s Son, came from David’s family, died, and rose from the dead.
Paul tells the believers in Rome that he prays for them and hopes to visit soon. He wants to help them grow strong in their faith and to share encouragement with each other.
Paul says, “I am not ashamed of the Good News!”
The Good News shows how God makes people right with Him — through faith, not by what we do.
Anyone who believes in Jesus can be saved, both Jews and non-Jews.
We praised God for Pastor Daniel because he is Deaf, and we don’t see many Deaf pastors.
We should not be ashamed to share and teach God’s Word.
We don’t need to work hard to make God love us.
God already gives us His free gift through faith in Jesus.
Ephesians 2:8 God’s grace has saved you because of your faith in Christ. Your salvation doesn’t come from anything you do. It is God’s gift.”
Thank you, Lord, for everything! Amen!
This past weekend, I had a wonderful visit with Mark and Carol Seeger in Austin. We attended worship at Bethany Lutheran Church, where I enjoyed a meaningful sermon based on Romans 12. Afterward, Dylan and I visited Jesus Deaf Lutheran Church, located just across from the Texas School for the Deaf.
Bethany Lutheran Church provides interpreters for the Deaf, making worship accessible and meaningful.
Dylan noticed that this church has a Deaf-friendly liturgy. He grew up attending very traditional services, so now he has had the opportunity to experience both traditional and contemporary worship styles in deaf way.
Having grown up attending very traditional services.
Jesus Deaf Lutheran Church also serves Deaf youth twice a month on Mondays. On some Mondays, they welcome 5 to 40 kids from the Texas School for the Deaf.
Romans 12 Summary
Romans 12 teaches us how to live as followers of Christ:
Offer yourself to God: Live your life as a holy sacrifice, pleasing to God.
Renew your mind: Don’t follow the world; let God change the way you think so you can know His good plans.
Use your gifts: God has given each of us different abilities—serve, teach, encourage, give, lead, and show mercy using your gifts.
Love sincerely: Be genuine in love, hate evil, and cling to what is good.
Live in harmony: Honor others, be patient, rejoice with those who rejoice, and mourn with those who mourn.
Respond with good: Don’t repay evil with evil; seek peace, bless your enemies, and overcome evil with good.
